Karim Qayumi is a Professor in the Divisions of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Director, Centre of Excellence for Simulation Education, Simulation and Innovation (CESEI), Department of Surgery at the University of British Columbia. He is the Chair of the Canadian Network for Simulation in Health (CNSH); co-Chair of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Simulation Summit 2009;
Shahnaz Qayumi, M.A. Developmental Psychology & Pedagogy, is a faculty of the Early Childhood Education department at Langara College. She also received her master’s Certificate from the Harvard Program Global Mental Health: Trauma and Recovery (2014). She has taught Early Childhood Education at Native Education College, Kwantlen University College, and Vancouver Community College. She has facilitated an ECE (Early Childhood Education) program for Family Empowerment funded by the Ministry of Health in North Delta for low-income families.
Dr. Michael Janusz is a cardiovascular surgeon at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He is a clinical professor of surgery at the University of British Columbia and Director of the Thoracic Aortic Surgery Service at UBC.
Mariam Hazhir has been working as a Secondary Teacher for 10 years with Surrey School District. She obtained her degree at UBC in English and Microbiology, and shortly after obtained her Bachelor’s in Curriculum and Instruction at SFU and completed her PDP training. More recently, she completed her Master of Educational Leadership and Administration at Yorkville University. Her principles of making connections to land for learning and strengthening inter-generational relationships and knowledge is evident in her community work.
Ahmad Baktash Nuri is a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in the G8 – Finance Branch at 39 Canadian Brigade Group Headquarters in Vancouver, British Columbia. In his role in Financial management, he supports and oversees budget planning, resource allocation, financial oversight, and financial services administration for the Brigade Headquarters.
He also is a student at the Royal Military College of Canada and Simon Fraser University,
Mohib Waziri has a degree in Information Technology specialized in Web & Mobile applications. He is currently working on CyberPatient project with Can-Health International under Dr.Karim Qayumi supervision. He is actively engaged in community and cultural programs in Vancouver, Canada.
Shabnam is an Islamic psychologist, writer, and academic lecturer. She holds a degree in Educational Psychology from Kabul University and is currently completing her Master’s degree in Psychology and Islamic Counselling at the International Open University. Her research focuses on integrating classical Islamic psychological traditions with contemporary Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) frameworks.
Alongside her academic pursuits, Shabnam teaches higher education courses in Islamic Psychology and remains a committed social activist.

With an educational background in biological sciences, focusing on cellular, molecular, and physiological studies from Simon Fraser University, Christina has a deep understanding of the intricate systems that sustain life. Farangies (Fara) Shah is a Director of Policy and former United Nations Programme Manager. She received her undergraduate degree from the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto followed by a Masters from Sciences Po Paris. Her professional career has spanned from France, Afghanistan and Canada with a background in governance, gender/GBV and development.
Monica Yousofi is a PhD student at the University of British Columbia and holds both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Communication from Simon Fraser University. Her research examines the intersections of migration, digital media, technology, and social justice, with a particular focus on how marginalized communities use digital spaces to build community, resist exclusion, and advocate for social change.
